Sunday, Nov 08, 2009 – The 24-hour Global Akhanda bhajan

The Akhanda bhajan continued throughout the night and the loudspeakers were switched on at eight o’clock this morning. Swami came to the bhajan hall at a quarter to ten. He moved down the aisle, sat for some time outside on the Sai Kulwant Hall stage area, and returned to the Bhajan hall, remaining there till half-past twelve! He went to Yajur Mandir and returned at half-past five. Once again He moved down the aisle and sat for a while outside, then returned to the bhajan hall before six o’clock.

Even after six o’clock, He kept indicating for bhajans to be sung, till He finally asked for the Arati ten minutes later. Prasadam of tamarind rice and sweet rice was then distributed to all on leaf plates even as Swami watched. He then interacted with some of the lady teachers who lead bhajans, gave them sarees, then gave sarees to some of the married men from the bhajan group for their wives. The interaction continued for more than half an hour, and it was 7.10 pm when Bhagavan returned to Yajur Mandir, blessing the devotees on the way.

Last evening, the Karnataka Education Minister was here for Swami’s darshan. The 24-hour Global Akhanda bhajan began this evening at six o’clock. Today was also Bhagavan’s birthday by the Telugu calendar. While He came for darshan at 4.20 pm, Swami called up several ladies and sent them to the bhajan hall. He moved twice around the ladies’ side doing this selection before completing His darshan round. Coming to the Bhajan Hall, Swami distributed sarees to all the ladies, more than fifty of them. He then moved to the verandah and later to the stage area as the Vedic chanting went on.

At half-past five, He came into the packed bhajan hall readied for the Akhanda bhajan. Interacting with some of the teachers and students there, He moved down the aisle and sat there till nearly six o’clock when He asked for the bhajan to begin and lit the 24-hour lamp. At half-past six, He returned to His residence, only to return to the bhajan hall at a quarter to eight. Once again He blessed the singers in the bhajan hall with His presence, moving down the aisle and taking a round of the Sai Kulwant Hall also. Finally, it was a quarter to nine when He returned to Yajur Mandir. From nine o’clock, the bhajan continued without microphones.

Kindly Note: Akhanda Bhajans have been changed from 14-15 Nov. to 7-8 November.

When Heaven came down to Mumbai – 8th Nov 2009

What do you do when the most beloved person in your life returns home after a long wait? Shed tears of joy? Sing and dance in ecstasy? Plead Time to stand still?

The people of Mumbai did it all, and much more, to express some of their inexpressible joy when their most beloved Bhagawan came visiting them for three days on October 31 — after a long wait of nine years.

A city made up of seven islands, Mumbai is located in the west coast of India and is the second-most populous city in the world — with about 14 million residents. The city is the commercial and entertainment capital of India, and contributes to about 70 percent of the capital transactions in the country. However, despite the apparent accomplishments, it was only the Lord’s visit that completed it.

It was an unusual face of Mumbai — a city generally known for its fast-paced life, financial hubs, Bollywood, glamour, mechanised lifestyle, and unfortunately, even terror attacks — as people shed tears of joy and gratitude, and laid out a carpet of devotion to welcome the Lord of the Universe.

Bhagawan’s coming became a great leveller, as people across all ages, social classes and from all corners of the city — from the posh south Mumbai to the slums of Dharavi — gathered under one roof for three days, with the only urge to have a glimpse of the Almighty.

October 31
The Lord arrives…

At around 2 pm, as people at the fully-packed Dharmakshetra, located in the northern suburb of Mumbai, were craning their necks toward the gates, a booming sound emerged.

The Lord arrives... - October 31 -2009

Over a 100 bike riders wearing Seva Dal scarfs zoomed through the Dharmakshtra gates, followed by Bhagawan’s car.

Soon, students from the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Mandir, Dharmakshetra, began chanting Vedas, a group of traditionally-dressed boys and girls showered flowers on the car, a brass band of youngsters started with its tunes, while singers rented soulful bhajans.

The car went onto Bhagawan’s residence Sathya Deep, where He retired after a hectic three-hour long drive.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and his family, and the wife and son of Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray visited Bhagawan to welcome Him to the city.

Four hours later, Bhagawan was at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Goregaon East to bless a crowd of at least 50,000 people.

Renowned Santoor player Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, playback singers Hariharan and Kunal Ganjawala, percussionist Shivmani, actor Salman Khan’s sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri and BJP leader Shaina NC were among others who came to have Bhagawan’s darshan here.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, former Union Minister Shivraj Patil, and Mumbai Congress head Kripashankar Singh and his family, 'well-known ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas were present at the darshan. Chavan and his family had conducted a puja in the presence of Bhagawan and later served a lavish spread of Indian lunch.

Leading playback singer Sonu Nigam climbed the stage with his family and music troupe and sought Bhagawan’s blessings, after which the singer presented a music programme.

Beginning with ‘Sai Baba Bolo’, Nigam went on to present a number of soulful songs into the evening — not before asking Bhagawan’s permission to continue before every song.

After the performance, a smiling Bhagawan blessed the singer with a diamond ring.

For a singer, perhaps this was the culmination, as an elated Sonu Nigam later tried summing up his feelings. “It was a very different feeling… I cannot express it”; but that said it all.

At around 7.30 pm, Bhagawan left for His ardent devotee Indulal Shah’s Khar residence and returned to Dharmakshetra two hours later.

November 1
He is everywhere…North Mumbai

Sunday was a packed day for the Lord.

Mumbaiites did not want lose a moment in the precious three days and wanted Him to visit every corner of the city, and the Compassionate Mother relented.

While in the morning Bhagawan presided over a business convention titled ‘Ethics and the World of Finance’, which was attended by many top industrialists and businessmen in the city.

Former Chairman of ICICI Bank K V Kamath, Chairman and Managing Director of the Union Bank of India MV Nair, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Kotak Bank Uday Kotak, Head of Deutsche Bank India PMS Prasad, Lok Sabha candidate and banker Meera Sanyal, Executive Director of SEBI Usha Narayanan, Executive Director of Reserve Bank of India VS Das were few of the prominent attendees.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who was also present, took the opportunity to seek Bhagawan’s blessings for his second term in running the state.

In the presence of the Lord, all differences melt. Chavan and his political rival Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopinath Munde shared the same stage, and the same views too.
Central Mumbai

Following the convention, the spotlight was on Jamboorie Maidan in Worli — located in central Mumbai and around 18 km away from Andheri — where over 15,000 devotees gathered for public darshan.

As requested by the city administration, Bhagawan’s car was driven through the city’s engineering marvel, the Bandra-Worli Sealink built over the Arabian Sea waters, before it reached the darshan grounds.

Bhagawan reached the Maidan at around 11.10 am and sat enjoying the bhajans sung by the local singers. After blessing the devotees and receiving Aarti, Bhagawan left the venue about 30 minutes later.

South Mumbai

Next on schedule was the lunch at ‘Varsha’, the official residence of the chief minister of Maharashtra in Malabar Hill, south Mumbai.

This was the first time that Bhagawan had visited the official residence of a serving chief minister, and Ashok Chavan was chosen to be the blessed one.

he evening darshan at Brabourne Stadium in Churchgate turned into an ethereal experience for an estimated 15,000 devotees present.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, former Union Minister Shivraj Patil, and Mumbai Congress head Kripashankar Singh and his family, ‘well-known ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas were present at the darshan. Chavan and his family had conducted a puja in the presence of Bhagawan and later served a lavish spread of Indian lunch.

Eyewitnesses said Chavan had requested Bhagawan to go around every room in the house so that his official house would be sanctified.

The evening darshan at Brabourne Stadium in Churchgate turned into an ethereal experience for an estimated 15,000 devotees present.

Under a moonlit open sky, the Lord sat on an exquisitely decorated stage listening to the divine melodies of students of the Sri Sathya Sai University, Prasanti Nilayam. The breeze in the stadium too seemed to be intoxicated in the atmosphere, as it gently swayed the Lord’s hair.

The students offered a string of soul-stirring melodies to Bhagawan that left everyone wishing that the night would never end.

But there was another devotee waiting for Bhagawan’s arrival. After about two hours, Bhagawan asked for Aarti and left the stadium for the Peddar Road residence of former state home minister Jayant Patil. Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar with family and Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee were also present alongwith the minister’s family members seeking Bhagawan’s blessings.

Following dinner at Patil’s residence, Swami’s motorcade, which had been tagged with ‘Z’ security, zipped through the traffic-cleared roads back to Dharmakshetra at about 10 pm.

Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group, stood waiting at the gates of Anand Kutir to have Bhagawan's darshan and was blessed with an hour-long interview.

November 2
Never a Farewell…

After a whirlwind schedule on the previous two days, Monday had a relatively relaxed schedule for Bhagawan and his devotees.

After a brief session with old students at Satya Deep, Bhagawan came down to the bhajan hall Shanti Deep at about 12 noon where He blessed the organisers, teachers of the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Mandir, Mumbai, and other volunteers.

He then proceeded to Jalan Mandap, the public darshan hall inside Dharmakshetra for a 20-minute darshan session. After the Aarti, Bhagawan raised both His hands in blessing, showering His grace on the waiting devotees.

At about 2.45 pm, Bhagawan left for Puttaparthi with his group of students and guests, escorted by the state Chief Minister till the Mumbai airport.

Devotees lined along the pathway of Dharmakshetra were blessed to see a smiling Bhagawan as the car glided out of the premises.

Unlike other farewells, here there was no parting; it was only a reunion at another level.

Dharmakshetra

He came, He saw, He conquered

Three days flew by, and nobody had realised it. However, as evidence, He had left His footprints everywhere, in every heart.

There were miracles everywhere, life had changed for everybody — for those who were fortunate to speak to Him to those sitting in the last row at darshan grounds; for those who had been devotees for years and for those who had come to see Him merely out of curiosity.

Prashant Gore, a musician from Sonu Nigam’s troupe, said he had accompanied the singer to the Goregaon darshan grounds as he did to any other performance. However, he realised later this one was extraordinary.

“I am very happy I came here. I feel as if I have seen God today. I got to touch His feet on the stage before the performance, and He even blessed me by touching me on the head. I am thrilled,” said an overwhelmed Gore.

For Sonu Nigam, Bhagawan’s arrival itself was a miracle.

“I never got the opportunity to visit Puttaparthi, but I am very fortunate that Swami Himself came down to our city — that too in the brief period when I am in Mumbai between two shows.”

#mumbai1

“I felt immense tranquility within. I am grateful to Swami for giving the honour to me, my family, and my musicians and for blessing us physically,” he added, concluding that “Ek hi jeevan mein unhonen yugon ka kaam kiya hai” (He has done the work of eras in one lifetime).

Thirteen-year-old Gauri Tatkare, a Class VII student of the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Mandir, Dharmakshetra, was “very excited” for she had seen Bhagawan for the first time, while her schoolmate Aarti Maitre, also 13, said she was “very happy” to see Bhagawan again, and that too on her school premises itself.

Bhagawan’s arrival had given a welcome break from hectic life for 60-year-old real estate agent Jayantilal Solanki. A resident of central Mumbai’s Lower Parel, Solanki said he had come to Dharmakshetra every time Bhagawan had come to the city since the 1970s.

For Tina Roopani, 22, a US resident who came to Mumbai to have Bhagawan’s darshan, the geographical distance was nothing compared to the “peace and contentment” she had got after seeing her Lord.

But perhaps the most subtle and evident miracle of Bhagawan reflected in the eyes of every devotee present — the eyes reflected peace, they twinkled with bliss and fulfillment, as if they had reached home.

As 72-year-old Raksha Dalal, a Balvikas guru since 1975, said it best. “He has gone back, but I know He is always with me.”

Yes, He has gone back, but not before leaving “HIMSELF” in every heart that relished His darshan, enabling reunion at a different level…

Morning 29th Oct 2009 Hadshi: The much awaited Prana Pratishta of the three deities, Lord Ganesha, Lord Vittala Rakumai and Bhagawan Shirdi Sai Baba idols at the Sri Sathya Sai Panduraga Kshetra was done by the Divine Hands on the auspicious 29th October morning attended by vast concourse of devotees.

Earlier in the morning, huge chunk of devotees (some overwhelmed with tears for their prayers were finally answered!) poured into the grounds of the Holy venue. The air was charged with excitement as His devotees continued to be in high spirits after the beautiful Darshan and soul-stirring musical rendition of the previous evening.

The splendid pink and white Ganesha Mandir at the entrance of the enclosure was delicately decorated with fragrant flowers, floral Swastiks and festive streamers. Soft rose petals were sprinkled all along the pathway to the Mandir. A ‘Shri’ inscribed in the floral decoration just above the doorway of the Mandir, welcomed the Lord within, where, on a raised, decorated platform, sat the magnificent marble idol of the Destroyer of Obstacles, Lord Ganesha.

Just before Swami arrived, priests and the Seva Dals performed a Kumbha Abhishek at the Ganesha and Vitthala Mandirs. Chanting prayers, they washed and sanctified two 3-tiered golden-coloured Kalash, and then placed a garland of fresh flowers around the Kalash. The sanctified Kalash was placed on the spires of the Ganesha and Vitthala Mandirs.

At 9:20 am, the Band of Solapur lined the red carpet leading to the Mandir welcoming Bhagawan in traditional Maratta style. The atmosphere was suffused with Vedic chanting and rhythmic sounds of percussion melodies.

Bhagawan arrived at 9:20 a.m to the accompaniment of combined sounds of Vedam, cymbals, trumpets and drums that electrified the atmosphere.

At 9:33 a.m., Bhagawan arrived in His car at the Ganesha mandir where He performed the Ganesha Murthi Sthapana (Idol Installation) rituals.

Bhagawan then proceeded to the Vitthala Rukhumai Mandir. As soon as he entered the premises, Bhajans began at 9:45 a.m. with ‘Pahi Gajanana Deenawana’.

Bhagawan went into the Shirdi Sai temple while the Bhajan ‘Sai Ram Ghanshyam Bhagawan Tumhara Naam’ was being sung. Here, Bhagawan conducted the Prana Pratishtha ritual for the Shirdi Baba idol.

As Bhagawan approached the Vitthala temple, devotees sang Panduranga Bhajans. Bhagawan then conducted the Prana Pratishtha ceremony for the Vitthal idol. The devotees sitting in the lawns, waiting for a glimpse of Bhagawan, sang their hearts out, paying eager tributes to their Lord! The already charged atmosphere was further boosted by an encircling paraglider showering rose petals all over!

Evening darshan Day 2 Hadshi
29th October 2009 – 5:00 PM

The sun was beaming in anticipation for a glimpse of the Lord. The devotees had braved its scorch all afternoon. Suddenly, as a reply to the million prayers in thousands of hearts, a murmur of activity was noticed in Bhagawan’s residence. The Lord was coming after what seemed like eternity! No other sound of engines, no other cavalcade of cars had ever been so blessed and so very welcome! With anticipation, the devotees prepared themselves for yet another Divine Encounter.

The Bhajans had already commenced and man and nature seemed to become one in an ambience of love and devotion. Sai Krishna arrived just as Madhusudhana Hare Madhava was being sung. Seated on the grand entrance of the Vitthal mandir, the Lord of the Universe graced the thousands present with His Darshan. He presided at the gathering like an Emperor holding the court of love in the land of the heart.

The beautiful Bhajans were followed by yet more beautiful Divine feelings of Love flowing from the devotees’ hearts. Some of them – Shri Jadhav, Shri V. Srinivasan – the All India President, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations and Shri Nishikant Barodekar – staff of the Sathya Sai Mirapuri College of Music, Prasanthi Nilayam shared their experiences and offered gratitude to Swami for His infinite Grace.

Shri Jadhav in all humility thanked Bhagawan for coming to Hadshi. He was filled with gratitude at the immense gathering for coming to the pristine surroundings of Hadshi, sanctified by Bhagawan’s Divine Presence. He declared to the delight of all gathered that Pandurang Kshetra is in the shape of the Divine AUM – the source of all knowledge, the seat of all dharma. Shri Jadhav gratefully reminisced the day’s events when Swami had graciously performed the Prana Pratishtha ritual for enlivening the Divine energy in the Ganesha, Vitthal Rakhumai and Shirdi Sai Baba idols . He had no words to thank Bhagawan for this grace and he earnestly prayed that we all indulge in spiritual and service activities. Shri Jadhav concluded his talk by urging Swami to come again and again to Hadshi, to the delight of the thousands gathered there.

The All India President of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation – Shri V. Srinivasan spoke next. He declared that for 37 years devotees of Bhagawan from Lonavala and Pune had been eagerly waiting for His arrival. The land had faced problems as even rains had become scarce. Shri Srinivasan was convinced in complete faith that with Bhagawan coming here, even dry, arid lands will become fertile. He further urged that Bhakti is the only way to reach Swami. He reiterated Swami’s teachings that nothing is greater than Love. He spoke of Swami’s various institutions like the University in which perfect education is provided to prepare the students not just for earning a living, but for life. He also spoke about the hospitals where modern and state-of-the-art treatment is provided to one and all completely free of cost. He declared that it has all departments except the billing department.

DIVINE DISCOURSE DATED OCTOBER 29, 2009

In the land of Bharat, tolerance and forbearance constitute the real beauty.

What is the nectarine feeling more than the feeling towards one own mother?

How much ever you may learn, still there remains knowledge which is infinite and there is always more to learn.

Bharat is the most sacred land – a land of Divinity. Everyone born in this holy land Bharat have done a lot of meritorious deeds in their past lives.

What is the purpose of this human life? Human life is gifted to earn God’s grace. The person who receives God’s grace in abundance can bring transformation in society.

The modern society is full of anxiety and restlessness. Wherever you go, whatever you encounter, you only find misery.

We have witnessed several natural calamities recently. The calamities we are passing through have nothing to do with God. It is because of man’s own mistakes and his own makings. God teaches only Dharma (righteousness). He never wants you to walk the path of Adharma (unrighteousness).

Satyam Vada, Dharmam Chara.

We cannot escape from reflection, reaction and resound. Therefore we should know that God is one. We give many names to the One and the same God. All are one. Therefore, in the whole world, only one is in existence.
There is same consciousness in all beings. Ekam Sath, Bahuda Vipraha Bhavanti.

In fact we feel we are miserable. If you ask yourself, you will know that the misery is of your own making. It has nothing to do with God. Therefore, never think that everything is given by God. Everything comes back to us because of our own thought process.

It is only God which confers bliss to all of us, that is not dual, that is ethereal, and one without a second.

If we make deep enquiries into our Vedanta, God gives us nothing. Pain or pleasure is of our own making. We are mistaken if we thing that someone else is responsible for our pain or pleasure.

Help Ever, Hurt Never. Love All. Have faith in everyone.

There is no human being without love. Even beasts, birds, animals and insects have love. This love is experienced even in the smallest of creatures. We should have deep conviction that God is present in everyone in the form of the Atma – consciousness.

You are not hating yourself, you are hating God when you hate others. Every human being is like a mirror. In the mirror, you find a reflection of yourself. In many mirrors, you see many reflections of yourself. Reflection. Reaction. Resound.
You are accusing yourself, blaming yourself. Therefore, whoever you come across, have deep faith that they are all God’s forms. Man fails to understand this truth. It is not proper on our path to make fun of anyone or hate anyone. Love is the only royal path that takes you closer to God.
Therefore all noble souls merged in God because of their incessant love for God. Sakkubai went on repeating “Ranga, Ranga, Ranga”. Everybody made fun of her and her husband persecuted her. Ultimately, she merged in God. She always said “I am not different from Ranga”. In all three states of awareness, she thought of Ranga only.

An atheist in Tamil Nadu used to take the idol of Vinayaka and beat Him with slippers. Karunanidhi used to enjoy this act. But Karunanidhi now declares that Sathya Sai is God. It’s quite likely that we commit mistakes out of ignorance. Then we repent. But you have to make amends for your mistakes. True repentence gives us atonement for our sins.

Karunanidhi’s son Stalin believes in God. He comes to Puttaparthi and shares his experience with others when he goes to Delhi.

It is only God who speaks, walks, listens to every activity.

We go by name and form. We may call it snake or scorpion. God is in every creature. God has given skills to different creatures to protect themselves. The scorpion stings in self defence and not with an intention to hurt. In a dense forest, a lion hurts only if hurt. Reaction, reflection, resound.

Bad actions lead to bad results. So do good. All that you face are consequences of our thought process. Our thoughts should be pure. A human being should have human values. Today, human beings are treated like dogs. Therefore all defects and mistakes lie with man. Reaction, reflection and resound.
Therefore, it is absolutely necessary that we correct our own mistakes and do not search for mistakes in others.

People made fun of those involved in the rescue of flood victims. In the same way, the whole community made fun of Sakkubai who kept chanting the name of Krishna. They were finally taught a lesson by Krishna. God is an ocean of love. Out of gross injustice and utter ignorance, we don’t understand ourselves and we blame God. The good or bad that we face is the consequence of our own doing. So we have to correct ourselves within.

The Christians believe in ‘I’. Cut the ‘I’ and it becomes a cross. The ego has to be killed. Once we get rid of this ego, then we can realise the real self. Man today is knowledgeable in all aspects of life. He is conquering space, prepared to count stars. But he fails in simple things. Love is the undercurrent of everything.

There are different kinds of sweets, but the sugar is one. The Upanishads say that whomsoever you salute, it reaches God. God is the one, who gives you everything. Understand your own mind. Realise your own mistake.

Help Ever. Hurt Never. He is a true man who knows this fundamental truth, who has morality and character. If you understand this, you will not put anyone to suffering. Recognise unity in diversity. God is only one – Atma – consciousness, has no name or form. It is the spirit or consciousness which permeates all beings. Several lights exist, but current is one.

We may undertake several spiritual activities but it all comes back to oneness. If you understand the oneness, you will have peace and bliss. You are Atma – the only one – the eternal one. God is only one – never think that He is many. When we face difficulties, we chant many names. But when we don’t have any problems in life, we don’t think of God. We should cling on to ‘Soham’. The name given to everyone at the time of birth is ‘Soham’. We will redeem our lives, working for liberation, if we know the Divine principle and Divine nature.

Many people speak of Swami differently. It is their imagination. Bhagawan has no imagination at all. All imagination should be dispensed.

Politicians know nothing. If they know the truth, the nation will be a better place. Do not follow politics. There is no relation between what the politician says and what he does.

If anybody does good, follow it. This is the message of Baba to all of us today. The whole world should be happy. Let all the beings be happy. You will acquire this bliss through love. We say ‘Peace, peace, peace’. Where is this peace ? Only pieces.

Bhagawan is happy and blesses all those gathered here.

The discourse concluded with the song ‘Bhajo, bhajo, Vithala’ by the music college students.
