The Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee conversing with His Holiness Shri Satya Sai Baba after inaugurating Shri Satya Sai Baba International Centre at Lodhi Road in New Delhi on March 12, 1999 Sai Baba opens international centre, school EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE NEW DELHI, MARCH 12: Sri Sathya Sai Baba inaugurated the first international centre and school named after him in Lodhi Colony today. He unveiled an inauguration stone and after his discourse, cut the ribbon at the entrance before taking a round of the place. The function was presided over by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. In his welcome address, Vajpayee said that it was a joyous occasion for Delhiites as Swami Bhagwan had agreed to come to Delhi after 17 years. “But now we won’t have to wait so long. For he’ll be here every year. We really need to have him here in Delhi. Pollution is increasing in the city, but now with his blessings Delhi will improve,” he said. Speaking about the centre, Vajpayee said that this is the first International Centre and a lot of devotees would benefit from it. “I keep meeting so many bhakts all over the world who keep asking me to convey their regards to Sai when I meet him. And they also ask me to tell Sai to visit them in their country. I told them that Sai worriesabout all his bhakts, no matter where they are. But now they can come over and meet him here in India,” he said. He said that during his visits to Puttaparthy or Shantiville, he saw the activities that Sai had undertaken for the welfare of the people. And these activities, he said, were an ideal in themselves as they aimed at removing darkness. Vajpayee said that for once he was not present in this assembly as a prime minister, but as a bhakt. “The last time Sai was here in Delhi, I held the post of foreign minister. Now I’ve been promoted and I’ve become prime minister,” he said, adding that he used to seek Sai Baba’a blessing even when he was out of office, and now that he’s the prime minister, he perhaps needed it a little more. In his discourse, Sathya Sai Baba said that India is a vast country which has always been a centre of spirituality, peace and non-violence. It is also the birthplace of great men like Valmiki, Vyasa, Buddha, Rama, Krishna and the land of schools, music, literature and science. “But today, the people seem to have forgotten the importance of the hard-earned freedom and no longer stand united,” he said. “India today needs new principles to keep it together, which include integrity, unity, fraternity and brotherhood,” he said. He attributed the various ills prevailing in the country to the lack of unity. “It is time for Indians to get together to determine the welfare of the society and practice the true message of love, as it is only love that binds us together,” Sai Baba said. He also said all that political parties do today is fight and criticise each other. He asked them to preach and practice love and brotherhood. He also commended Vajpayee for his loyalty to one party during his political career. “I have seen him for the past 70 years, and he has stuck to the same party all these years. We must support such a leader, who knows how to follow his dharma,” said Sai Baba. Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd. |

In the News media:
Sai Baba to Visit Delhi Every Year Published in The Times of India on Saturday 13 March 1999 NEW DELHI: Visiting Delhi after a gap of 17 years, the Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi has this good news for his devotees: he will now be coming to the national capital every year. Speaking at the inauguration of the Sathya Sai International Centre and School on Lodhi Road on Friday morning, he compared Delhi to the stomach of Bharat. Diseases arise when the stomach does not function properly. “If the stomach is in good condition, the body will be healthy. If Delhi is good, the country will be good,” he added. The Swami, adored by millions, had a good word for Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, who also addressed the meeting for ten minutes. “I have known Mr Vajpayee for 17 years.” He commended the ‘spiritual leadership’ of Mr Vajpayee “who has continued with the same party.” He also wished the Prime Minister success in his efforts to promote good relations with neighbouring countries. “I have not come here as Prime Minister,” Mr Vajpayee said, recalling that he was foreign minister when the Baba first visited Delhi 17 years ago. “Today I am something different. I still need his grace.” He commended the Baba for demonstrating through his multifarious projects and activities that service of the people constituted service to God. Union home minister L K Advani, human resource development minister Murli Manohar Joshi, former President Shanker Dayal Sharma and other prominent politicians and senior officials were present at the function. In his more than 30-minute address, the Baba recalled the greatness of India, known for eminent men like Valmiki, Veda Vyasa, Rama and Buddha. Indian culture and tradition emphasised charity, the spirit of sacrifice, truth and non-violence. “But what have we achieved in 50 years of freedom? Murders, hijackings, kidnappings…the human mind is polluted by kama and krodha. We are afraid to travel by road, rail or by plane. The world is full of fear. We speak of peace. But where is peace? We have only ‘pieces.’ There must be peace within first. And there will be peace outside when people relate to one another in love.” “Today, there is a lot of hatred. Only the mean-minded people hate. So long as there is hatred, there will not be any peace…While we love our motherland, we should not criticise other countries.” And he added his slogan: ‘Help ever; hurt never.’ In his speech, the Baba repeatedly stressed the greatness of Indian culture and bemoaned the lack of unity which had led to foreign rule in the past. The country could achieve freedom but not unity. He was also critical of the tendency among the young and the educated to imitate other cultures. “Our culture is as vast as the Himalayas and as deep as the ocean. No other culture is as great as India’s,” he declared, amid loud applause. Spirituality means morality. Of all the sacred rituals, there is nothing greater than adherence to truth. Is any ritual more important than feelings towards one’s mother? Love your motherland. “God is in you, He is around you. There is no place where God is not,” he said, adding: “Love is God. Live in love.” Earlier, Kulwant Rai, president of the Delhi unit of the Sai seva organisation, said the international centre would promote the five values of truth, righteousness, peace, love and non-violence. He also gave an account of the water supply project, the super-speciality hospital and other projects set up by Sathya Sai Baba. Devotees continue to throng darshan venues Sri Sathya Sai Baba continued to attract thousands of devotees today in the third day of his stay in the Capital. As the news of the visit of the spiritual leader spread in the neighbouring states, a large number of devotees from there turned up at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to have a darshan of the Baba. A large number of vehicles from the neighbouring states were seen parked at the venue. Brief darshan of heat, hope and vibhuti NEW DELHI: Hundreds thronged the leafy lane lined with purple banners quoting Baba: Service to humanity is service to divinity. White-garbed volunteers with blue scarves kept the queues in line, manned a counter dispensing first aid against the growing afternoon heat. With the others, I passed through three metal detectors and was comprehensively and repeatedly frisked (For mobile? Binoculars? Camera? Snacks?) by volunteers sibilating Sia Ram. Largely from Delhi, the throng had a cosmopolitan leaven: greek, American, Kannada, Telugu punctuated local Punglish. “There’s Amjad Ali Khan!” someone exclaimed. “And Justice Bhagwati, no?” added another. Inside, the commons squatted on a wide lawn covered with green carpets; protocol provided white plastic chairs for the privilegentsia. On the verandah of the white bungalow stood a purple-draped jhoola with a wrought iron Om. Amplified bhajans and tangible awe stilled the birdsong. The verandah doors opened and a slight, diminutive figure emerged in a saffron robe crowned with the unmistakable aureole of jet black hair. A thousand breaths waiting to exhale went “Ah!” in hushed reverence. Baba appeared to glide rather than walk as he moved among his flock, a gentle smile on his lips. The fingers of his upturned right palm seemed to ask an eloquent question of the faces turned up to him in adoration: What is it that you seek from me, my child, that is not already there within yourself? The faces were rapt with Baba’s presence, beyond question or answer. Several bore a look of concentrated piety, not unfamiliar in the Capital’s anterooms of ministerial power and patronage. The look seemed to say: Will my submission – for a daughter’s marriage, a government contract, relief from physical or mental pain – be accorded tatkal status in the general Scheme of Things? Now and then, Baba paused to touch a devotee lightly on head or shoulder in benediction. Those around the favoured one touched him or her in turn, in ardent hope of relayed grace. Several got up and in a worshipful half crouch edged forward to proffer envelopes containing petitions for boons to Baba. Shuffling back in reverse gear, eyes fixed on Baba, a substantial devotee stumbled and almost landed on the lap of another, who deferentially eased him to a safe landing. “There, there! Did you see? Baba produced vibhuti, put it in the handkerchief that young man gave him!”, someone murmured ecstatically. I tried to see but the dazzle of sun and palpable faith proved too blinding. “Three times I came from America to see him, but never got a darshan. Today, I touched his feet; my prayers have been answered,” whispered a devotee, face radiant with joyous tears. Then, as quietly as he had made his entrance, Baba was gone. Arti was performed before the empty swing, the tremulous flame an after-image of a saffron robe. The bhajans were switched off. Silence swirled in the heat. A tentative bird chirped. The darshan was over. “I’ve been a follower for over 25 years. First because my husband believed in him, now because I believe myself,” confided a devotee on the way out. The volunteers didn’t frisk us this time but said Sia Ram just the same. Despite the heat, I felt a lightness of step: You don’t have to believe yourself to have faith in the faith of others. As I stepped off the kerb, a lorry thundered down at me. I waved benignly at the driver, Sia Ram, bete! The fellow screeched on his brakes. Even a Delhi lorry driver knows better than to try conclusions with one just coming from an audience with the best connected PA in town |

Sathya Sai Baba, Bill Aitken And The Vibuthi Covered Pick – “You will be successful”
Divinity’s Visiting Card on Vibhuti’s magical effect |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A Sai experience by Bill Aitken from
On 14th June 1980 I was lucky enough to be present in a house visited by Baba in New Delhi after His Divine visit to Kashmir. I was preparing to go on a pilgrimage to the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, one of the most difficult treks in the Himalayas. I took my high altitude equipment with me, including ropes, pitons (rock clamps) and my trusted ice-axe, an indispensable tool for negotiating precipitous icy terrain in the high mountains.
Baba graciously asked after my welfare and I said I would like Him to bless my adventure. My hostess suggested I give Baba my ice-axe to bless. He smiled, took it and began to ask some searching questions about the composition of the steel used in its making. His students knew more about this than I did. Suddenly He produced Vibhuti from thin air (without the usual circular movements I had seen in public) and proceeded to rub it with great intensity on one side, the pick side, of the ice-axe only. He didn’t put any Vibhuti on the other parts. Then with an air of finality He said, “You will be successful,” and handed back the ice-axe. I do not know what constitutes a miracle but I do know that a month later, on 26th July, while climbing into the Sanctuary, the pick of the ice-axe saved my life. Traversing some tricky wet slabs of rockcut croppings above the Rishi Ganga gorge at Rhamani I was aided by two excellent Garhwali porters. They were so skillful and daring that they disdained to use any rope and would cross the wet slabs sloping out over the edge of the gorge in their bare feet. They would go ahead fixing rope, then sit on their haunches and wait for me with all my climbing regalia to haul myself up. I kicked a toehold in the damp earth and reaching up whacked the pick of the ice-axe into the earth above. To my dismay the six inch pick clanged against rock after it had gone in only three inches, not enough to hold much weight. At the same moment the earth under my toehold crumbled away and I felt myself sinking gently with the earth until I was dangling above the gorge supported only by the Vibhuti covered pick. For the agonising moment my full weight came on the axe; my thoughts were more of self disgust at my incompetence than fear of hurtling a thousand feet to certain death. Somehow that three inches of steel didn’t slice through the soft earth but held me long enough for the porters to back down and grab me. After a few more close shaves we were successful and got to our destination, the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, reaching that holy place on Gurupurnima. There were other hair raising incidents on our return trip, but thanks to Baba’s Divine Grace, we came through all right and I am alive today to narrate this story. – Bill Aitken (William McKay Aitken, also known as Bill Aitken is a Scottish born naturalised Indian writer and traveller) |

January 3, 2004 News from Sri Sathya Sai International Center The Sri Sathya Sai International Centre in Delhi began the New Year with a lecture on 3rd January, by the Dalai Lama. Lt. Gen.Dr.M.L.Chibber, Director of the Centre welcomed the Guest of Honour and Dr. Karan Singh, eminent philosopher-statesman, who presided over the function. The auditorium was packed to capacity, even though it was one of the coldest days of this winter. His Holiness the Dalai Lama spoke for 45 minutes, after which Dr. Karan Singh, delivered his presidential remarks. The Dalai LamaThe Dalai Lama opened with the remark that the key to peace lies in non-violence and tolerance, which is a 7000-year-old tradition in India. We can have peace only if we are able to bring about an attitude of respect for religions, faiths and belief systems other than our own. There is an interesting fact to be noted about the great world religions. At the level of philosophy there might be apparent differences among them; but at the level of practice there is no difference. It would not be correct to say that we should have no emotions. A person without emotions is a person without feeling. He is apt to be dry, distant, cold, friendless, negative and vicious. The important thing is not to harbour negative emotions. Negative emotions are emotions that are immature, narrow and cloudy. For example, attachment and hatred are two such negative emotions. When a person sees the world through the prism of attachment, he would conclude that whatever he does is 100% right. And when he sees someone else through the prism of hate, he would conclude that whatever the other person does is 100% wrong. Nothing in Nature is 100% right or wrong. Such a perception is merely a mental projection, that distorts our appreciation of Reality, creating more problems. Positive emotions are mature emotions because here emotion is combined with intelligence. The application of intelligence leads to analysis and investigation. Analysis leads to conviction. The disciplining of emotion leads to a holistic vision of Reality. Everything is interconnected. If one fails to see the interconnectedness and interdependence, then it is a distorted vision. Examples of positive emotions are faith and Compassion, which can be imbibed only through a training of emotions. Life is bound to be full of problems. Even if there are no other problems, one’s own body suffers from the problems of illness, decay and death. If problems are an integral part of our existence, we have to be fully prepared to face these with calmness, placidity and fortitude. In this process of nurturing your inner self, it helps if you continue to remain in the spiritual and religious tradition in which you have been born. I am happy to see that Sathya Sai Baba has said that his mission is not to convert people to other traditions. He would like a Buddhist to be a better Buddhist, a Muslim to be a better Muslim and a Hindu to be a better Hindu. One should be serious and sincere towards one’s own faith. This generates a calm atmosphere both in the individual and the society. Our inner experiences reach a deeper dimension. In this audience there is a plurality of faiths. This reality has to be accepted. India has always believed in ahimsa in terms of acceptance of other faiths. Gandhiji is a great example of inter-religious harmony. He was a staunch Hindu, but he had a deep respect for other faiths. Buddha was also a true Indian in this sense. He studied the faiths prevalent in India in his time and practised a number of Hindu paths. After his enlightenment, he taught the four noble truths. Buddha’s philosophy of interdependence is his unique contribution to world philosophy. The concept of interdependence is equally true in the fields of economy, politics, defence and so on. This gives a wider, holistic picture of any problem and brings us closer to reality. Buddha believed in the human value of truth. He exhorted his followers to follow the truth. When he enunciated the four noble truths, he also analyzed the cause of suffering. His conclusion was that all suffering was due to ignorance. He accepted the practice of Samadhi. He also innovated the vipassana system, which can be a very effective method for reducing attachment. He had great respect for the other traditions. This ideal of religious tolerance is still alive in India at the village level. There the followers of different faiths have lived together in peace and harmony for the last several centuries. Multi-culturalism and religious tolerance is practised in their daily lives. It is only in recent times that some politicians have created problems due to their low level of awareness. They have too much attachment, which leads to a narrowness of vision and a kind of shortsightedness. It is important that these few people are not allowed to destroy the rich 7000-year-old tradition of tolerance and harmony. We can all live together and work together at individual and community levels.Shri Karan Singh In his presidential address, Dr. Karan described the Dalai Lama as a unique combination of a natural sense of humour, compassion, wisdom, and an infectious childlike laugh. He demonstrated by his living example that Spirituality did not necessarily mean a prissy, acidic outlook on life. On the other hand, Spiritually-advanced souls were full of Ananda, which often bubbled over into their conversation. The Dalai Lama was also the epitome of Compassion. Compassion was the essence of Buddhism. He had deep insight into the nature of the world and man. He had nurtured Tibetan Diaspora all over the world and helped them to organize themselves into dynamic communities. Today the world was divided and split apart by fanaticism, hatred and war. Against these demonic forces, we were sorely in need of a countervailing coalition for Peace, led by personalities like Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and the Dalai Lama. In order to strengthen the forces of Peace, it was necessary to first accept the fundamental fact that no religion could claim a monopoly on Truth. Nor could we wage wars, crusades and religious conflicts in the twenty-first century, in order to compel others to adopt our point of view. Today, war meant a nuclear conflict, which could easily result in the disappearance of humanity from the face of the globe. We find ourselves in an imperfect world and we have perforce to learn the art of living together in peace and harmony. India had always nurtured religious harmony through the ages. Our seers had declared long ago that Truth was One and the sages simply called it by different names. We needed to remember these insights that had served this country through the millennia of its existence. Describing the discourse of the Dalai Lama as illuminating, Dr. Karan Singh expressed his happiness at the large presence of young people in the audience. With so much of misinformation around, it was refreshing to drink from a healing spring of knowledge, insight and wisdom. |

Sai Baba News – CHRISTMAS EVE IN PRASANTHI NILAYAM 24 DEC. 2009
December 25, 2009
Current Sai Baba News |
Christmas Eve in Prasanthi Nilayam – 24 Dec 2009 Source: sssbpt.org Posted at 01:36:12 Hrs. IST on 25 Dec 2009 Joy knows no bounds when you sing your heart in praise of His Glory. On the auspicious Christmas Eve after an hour-long singing of His Glory in His immediate Divine Presence, the International Choir had an unusual word of appreciation, from none other than The Lord on whom, to whom “they” sung. Towards the end of the session, calling one of his students, Bhagawan asked him to announce that the songs sung by the choir were touching and made Him very happy. ..And after a two hour long session, the International Choir walked out of the hall with joy in their hearts that knew no bounds! International Choir: Once Sylvia Alden took over presenting the programme to Bhagawan, the choir sang 18 hymns, precisely for an hour, presenting a disciplined devotional show of Love for their Beloved Bhagawan. Singing their hearts out, the choir used all the available adjectives heralding the glory of the “Born Little Divine”. As sonorous notes from an array of musical instruments rendered the air, with hundreds singing in chorus, the sun in the western horizon slowly fading off giving way to a beautiful twilight, they sang…”Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee God of glory…” The choir sang and made it a befitting evening paying homage to the Master of masters while remembering His chosen son, anticipating yet another Divine Advent…a glorious Christmas 2009!!!The compositions sung were, Christmas in Prasanthi Nilayam, Carol of the Bells, Silent Night, O Come all Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Away in a Manger, Sanctus (Italian), Here I am the Lord, Jesus Born on this Day, Jesus What a Wonderful Child, Angels We Have Heard on High, When a Child is born, Glory Hallelujah, Turn Your Eyes, We Love You Bhagawan, Joyful, Joyful We adore Thee, Amen -Hallelujah and O Holy Night. The Choir that was conducted by Sylvia Alden from the United States was ably supported by graceful Gisela Sebastian from Germany, whose glorious voice truly inspires the ladies to reach even greater crescendo. Gisela who has composed many a song for Bhagawan, lovingly went through the pieces, note by note, chord by chord and semi-breve by semi-breve while training the choir singers. The artiste who has been involved with music in Prasanthi for the past 29 years, whose demeanour talks about her greater love for God was involved in training sopranos (refers to the female singing voice range) for ladies and tenors (refers to range of men) for gents. Some of the prominent names behind the instruments were, Gisela Sebastian (Ger) on Harmonium, Stanislav (Ger) and Golbert on Violin, Peter (Den) on Key-Board, Prem on Saxophone, Martina (Ger) on Santoor, Shira Taylor (Can) on Flute, Dorothea (Swiss) on Chello, Douglas Sanders (Newzealand) on Guitar, Adam on Drum-Kit, Sergio on Box-Drum, Mano on “Bird-Sound” etc. The choristers had only ten days to familiarize themselves with 18 musical pieces – 17 of them in English and one in Italian – and many of the devotees do not have English as their first language. In addition, there were over 45 musicians and to add a final twist of complexity to this ambitious undertaking, most of the people involved were not professional singers or musicians. The troupe with their greater determination and love for Bhagawan has been practising 5-6 hours a day for ten days, skipping darshan sessions. Additional sessions for sopranos and tenors were also conducted fine tuning the entire show to make a perfect offering at His Divine Lotus Feet. |
…and the climax came when Bhagawan called the student to announce that the songs that were sung by the choir were touching and made Him very happy… It was kind of “Oh! Ghosh! Does He really want a student to tell us that He is happy with our singing” was the reaction many of the choir members who exclaimed that the entire show was a “Perfect Show of Love”. Indeed the appreciation that came along most unexpectedly was received with awe and greater excitement and it would take time for these choir members to sink in with this ecstatic feeling.
The third block that was occupied by white clad men and women of International Choir was the reflection of this pure love, wherein their surge of emotional and devotional ecstasy was contained in their folded palms, fixed glare and glances that talked about their musings from within, Love for The Lord! The student was commanded to express grateful thanks to the International Choir on behalf of the University for their wonderful “conduct”. The student while praying for their turn on the Christmas morning for singing as well as their regular band display prayed that Bhagawan should bless them to come up with the best of their performance as was done by the International Choir. Christmas Celebrations International Co-ordinator, John Behner was asked to announce the three-day Christmas Programme. While the Christmas morning programme would commence at 9 am. in His immediate Divine Presence the evening programme would be having two – three speakers including himself, who would be reading the report delivering vote of thanks to various hands involved in the entire Christmas preparations and the third day afternoon would feature an International Choir conducted by Alma Badings followed by a Drama on Life and Love of Jesus Christ, by name “Jesus comes to our Hearts” by Children from Latin American countries. After the entire show that lasted for more than two hours, members of the International Choir walked out of Sai Kulwant Hall, gracefully, with joy in their hearts that knew no bounds. Wednesday, Dec 23, 2009 – Fifth anniversary of Prasanthi Dance Group Introducing a Cultural Programme commemorating the fifth anniversary of Prasanthi Dance Group, Prof. Anil Kumar exclaimed: Life with Bhagawan is celebration; Life with Bhagawan is music: Life with Bhagawan is ecstasy and dance. It was ecstatic celebration of music and dance that was in store when a group of dedicated, talented and devoted students from Sri Sathya Sai University’s Prasanthi Nilayam Campus got the Divine nod to celebrate the anniversary of the group, “Prasanthi Dance Group” in His Divine presence on the evening turned twilight of 23 Dec 2009.
Entitled “Sathya Vaani – Nrithya Baani”, the programme had picks from rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Bharat. Dancing with dexterity, sense of devotion, with a touch of aestheticism the folk danced to the compositions of Bhakta Jayadeva, Bhakta Ramdas, starting with a Vishnu Stuthi after Ganesha Vandana, through Shuklambaradharam Vishnum, sailing through the Dasavathara Stuthi, depicting the crux of the stories from the ten Avatars through steps suffused with emotive expressions. Story of Lord Sri Ramachandra through Bhakta Ramadas composition, a tillana depicting the tale Bhagavata featuring Gajendra Moksha were some of the other numbers before singing a mangalam song for Lord Sai “Sri Sai Ramanikku Jaya Mangalam, Parthi Nivasinikku Shubha Mangalam”. The inspirational story of this five year old dance troupe began dating back to year 2005 when a talented, well trained student by name Ganesh was given an opportunity to perform a solo dance during one of the cultural programmes. Impressed by the boy’s talent, Bhagawan had words of appreciation and encouragement and opined that “there is ample space; will be nice if more boys join”. Six more boys, pick of best of dancing talents from the entire Prasanthi Nilayam campus joined and they had the first group dance programme in the Divine presence. The group was slowly evolving as, in 2006, Bhagawan asked Ganesh to train pick of talents from the Prasanthi Nilayam campus. The troupe’s onward journey was inspirational. “Swami used to guide us on the kind of songs, encouraging us to practice rigorously to perfection. Often Swami would indicate us to get ready before major programmes”, says Ganesh who has done M.Sc, MBA and a Post Graduate Diploma in Indian Culture and Spirituality.
The troupe would dance in white dress without any costumes in the beginning. When Swami started enquiring about costumes, the troupe had the first opportunity to have a “full-fledged” dance programme during the Ati Rudra Maha Yajna in Aug 2006. Ganesh, who has been a trained dancer in Bharat Natyam, Kuchipudi and Folk forms for the past eleven years have trained more than forty boys over the past 4-5 years. The 23rd evening programme featured 25 students of the University, ranging from under-graduate to doctoral programmes. The hype and importance of the event was very well evident, when Bhagawan asked Prof. Anil Kumar to announce the programme, detailing academic background, place each student hails from etc.
The same group had offered a huge anniversary card to Bhagawan on the previous evening while praying to stage “their” commemorative show. Bhagawan was gracious enough to bless new anklets and dandiya sticks while blessing them to stage the programme. At a time when Christmas preparations are gearing up, with a sizeable western populace camping in the holy township, the dance programme served as a pointer substantiating Bhagawan’s view on Bharat’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage. |
Tuesday, Dec 22, 2009 – Sri Sathya Sai University Management System Commissioned Posted at 01:09:09 Hrs. IST on 23 Dec 2009
On 22 Dec 2009, Tuesday, Sri Sathya Sai University had a special agenda with Bhagawan. The University’s newly developed ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system was blessed and commissioned by Bhagawan in a small function held in the bhajan hall in the evening at 4:30 Hrs.
Salient features and usefulness of the newly developed system was explained to Bhagawan with the aid of power point presentation. Prof. Anantaraman, faculty, School of Business Management, Accounting and Finance took the lead explaining the features in Kannada. Bhagawan was the keen observer in the hall, setting Himself as an ideal. An interesting episode to depict the keenness of Bhagawan while watching and listening the presentation. As various quotes of Bhagawan came up in between the presentation, the professor read out one saying, “Swami, so much of quotes (about the purpose of the university) from the Convocations have been included here.” Swami retorted, “I told that, not during the convocation, but during the inauguration of Anantapur College!” The Professor was humble in accepting Bhagawan’s version. The schedule for the execution of the various modules of the UMS was also presented to Bhagawan and there was a collective submission and prayer to Bhagawan to officially inaugurate the same. As the name and password had been typed, Bhagawan hit the “Enter” key, pressing the UMS for the University into service. The University website that has been revamped was also presented to Bhagawan explaining features in short detail. Various stakeholders who were involved in the making of the system and the website were blessed by Bhagawan with Paadanamaskaar. Staff members working in the University Administrative Block were also present during the occasion. In the meanwhile Bhajans were on and upon completing the presentation Bhagawan came on to the dais, cutting across the upper verandah, blessing scores of devotees. As soon as He was seated, He pointed to a student and conveyed that He had noticed him in a photo during the presentation! The boy did not seem to understood then, but his joy knew no bounds when he realized the special Grace after the evening’s Aarthi! The bhajans were on in full gusto and enthusiasm. New anklets and sticks for Dandia were also blessed by Bhagawan. Posing curious He asked the troupe as to when they would be ready with their next programme, and pat came the reply: “Whenever Swami says.” “Let us see on Thursday, was His reaction. As the boys returned to their respective seats, His hands rose in “Abhaya” Posture, conferring blessing to one and all! Christmas is getting closer and the Christmas Flavour started showing up in Mandir as well. The Dais and the centre area along with the pillars were already decorated and one could see the Christmas Volunteers and Decoration team transporting decoration items to the mandir, as part of decking up His Abode and Prasanthi Mandir. The Overseas Choir is steadily progressing with their rehearsal sessions, most meticulously done, resonating the Prasanthi air, purifying the same with hymns on the arrival of Baby Jesus and so were the little wards from overseas countries getting readied with the Children Choir. As the evening was conceding to the twilight at Prasanthi, she was indeed sensing the Christmas flavour! (with inputs from Team Radio Sai) |

Posted at 18:40:01 Hrs. IST on 08 Dec 2009 December arrived and came along with the wintry season. While passing off, the first week of the last month left vivid pictures of a vibrant Prasanthi that had enough of actions in its kitty. Topping the list comes the visit of India’s Industrial tycoon Ratan Tata. In appreciation, the distinguished guest wrote in the guest book after completing his visit at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram, “One of the most impressive and unique hospital facilities I have ever seen. It performs patient care and treatment as it should be, and in a form that unfortunately is not, by and large, practised today”. Accompanied by his colleague and close confidant Mr. R.K. Krishna Kumar, Vice Chairman, India Group of Hotels and a member in the Board of Directors for Tata Sons, Mr. Ratan Tata also visited the University Administrative Block and the Prasanthi Nilayam Campus wherein the distinguished guest was briefed in detail about Bhagawan’s Vision on Educare, His Revolutionary Educational Mission and the Holy Educational set up brought about by Bhagawan. In a brief address to the officials and faculty members of the University, Mr. Tata expressed his thanks for the hospitality, lavishing at the holistic institution run by Bhagawan that serves as a role model. And after watching the Water Project Video presentation, he said: “I would have loved to be part of the water project. This is a project where all the benefit has reached where it is actually needed – the poor man! I wish I was there to see Swami plan and execute the whole project!” Excellence in performance meeting the benchmark set by Bhagawan, the crew was rewarded well with a forty minute onstage session with Bhagawan in presence of the Chief Guest. From the drama to real life, many of the aspiring students writing the final year exams got to clear their doubts about career path, capitalizing the best of the occasion. Bhagawan Himself was seen introducing many of the boys detailing their courses undertaken. In between, Bhagwan called out Issac Tigrett of Hard Rock fame asking him, “how many hotels?” “In reply he said, “Swami more than 148 Hard Rock Cafes; but all that is nothing in front of my Master! Master is everything.” Continuing with this conversation, referring to the present day plight of youth and parents, Bhagawan said emphatically, “Everything is polluted. My students will go everywhere and clean up everything. That is their service to me” Speaking about singing, Bhagawan said that the harmony of feelings, rhythm and melody are most important. “Bhava, Raaga and Tala – these constitute Bharatha. Bhava or feeling is most important. The boys here have lot of feelings. They go to the villages and serve the poor people there.” Acknowledging this Tata replied, “I have seen the glow in the eyes and faces; they have a lot of devotion for You”. Swami said, “If everyone had such devotion, the world would immediately improve.” Bhagawan specially introduced Warden of the Hostel followed by the lead singer. Referring to the lead singer who had studied in Prasanthi Nilayam from the Primary level, Bhagawan remarked that he had been working there for sixteen years and his final remark before leaving was on Mr. Ratan Tata. …And before leaving Bhagawan had a mention about the good man in Tata, who serves the society most selflessly. Upon returning from the University Auditorium, Mr. Tata and Krishna Kumar were blessed with a fifteen minute open session in the bhajan hall on the 3rd evening. The next morning after his visit to the Indoor Stadium and Chaitanya Jyothi Museum, Mr. Tata was granted an audience with Bhagawan that lasted for forty minutes which was followed by a brief audience to Mr. Krishna Kumar. Before leaving for Hyderabad after one day stay in the Ashram the guest of honour also paid visit to the Indoor Stadium and Chaitanya Jyothi Museum. With the passing off 84th Year of Advent, the countdown for the landmark occasion, 85th Birthday is virtually begun. …And in anticipation of the mammoth occasion, new dormitories are being constructed replacing existing ten numbers starting with shed nos. 11 and 12. The new provision would be having triple storeyed Two more Parthi Yatras, from West Bengal and Punjab, marked the end of the week with two programmes by the respective states. West Bengal that came with a force of over 550 staged a drama “Transformation – Individual to Global” that talked about the influence wielded by Sai Youth in the society in general bringing in transformation beginning at the individual level. “Vande Sai Mataram”, a colourful dance drama by Punjab Youth and Balvikas, came with a force of over 450, was a depiction of the state’s rich cultural heritage and patriotic feeling. Come December and Prasanthi gets the taste of winter. Wintry weather hit Prasanthi as December gets going to the second week. But, the chilly climate no way stops the students from gearing up for the annual sports and cultural meet. The preparations virtually began this week with trial and practice sessions got to start braving the wintry weather. Apart from the Tata Team and Dr. Vijay Kelkar, another dignitary who was present during the week was veteran VHP leader, Ashok Singhal who was here for two days. When Heaven came down to Mumbai – 8th Nov 2009
Posted at 01:55:00 Hrs. IST on 8 Nov 2009 – source:sssbpt.orgWhat do you do when the most beloved person in your life returns home after a long wait? Shed tears of joy? Sing and dance in ecstasy? Plead Time to stand still? The people of Mumbai did it all, and much more, to express some of their inexpressible joy when their most beloved Bhagawan came visiting them for three days on October 31 — after a long wait of nine years. A city made up of seven islands, Mumbai is located in the west coast of India and is the second-most populous city in the world — with about 14 million residents. The city is the commercial and entertainment capital of India, and contributes to about 70 percent of the capital transactions in the country. However, despite the apparent accomplishments, it was only the Lord’s visit that completed it. It was an unusual face of Mumbai — a city generally known for its fast-paced life, financial hubs, Bollywood, glamour, mechanised lifestyle, and unfortunately, even terror attacks — as people shed tears of joy and gratitude, and laid out a carpet of devotion to welcome the Lord of the Universe. Bhagawan’s coming became a great leveller, as people across all ages, social classes and from all corners of the city — from the posh south Mumbai to the slums of Dharavi — gathered under one roof for three days, with the only urge to have a glimpse of the Almighty. October 31The Lord arrives… At around 2 pm, as people at the fully-packed Dharmakshetra, located in the northern suburb of Mumbai, were craning their necks toward the gates, a booming sound emerged.
Over a 100 bike riders wearing Seva Dal scarfs zoomed through the Dharmakshtra gates, followed by Bhagawan’s car. Soon, students from the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Mandir, Dharmakshetra, began chanting Vedas, a group of traditionally-dressed boys and girls showered flowers on the car, a brass band of youngsters started with its tunes, while singers rented soulful bhajans. The car went onto Bhagawan’s residence Sathya Deep, where He retired after a hectic three-hour long drive.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and his family, and the wife and son of Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray visited Bhagawan to welcome Him to the city. Four hours later, Bhagawan was at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Goregaon East to bless a crowd of at least 50,000 people. Renowned Santoor player Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, playback singers Hariharan and Kunal Ganjawala, percussionist Shivmani, actor Salman Khan’s sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri and BJP leader Shaina NC were among others who came to have Bhagawan’s darshan here.
Beginning with ‘Sai Baba Bolo’, Nigam went on to present a number of soulful songs into the evening — not before asking Bhagawan’s permission to continue before every song. After the performance, a smiling Bhagawan blessed the singer with a diamond ring. For a singer, perhaps this was the culmination, as an elated Sonu Nigam later tried summing up his feelings. “It was a very different feeling… I cannot express it”; but that said it all. At around 7.30 pm, Bhagawan left for His ardent devotee Indulal Shah’s Khar residence and returned to Dharmakshetra two hours later. November 1 Sunday was a packed day for the Lord. Mumbaiites did not want lose a moment in the precious three days and wanted Him to visit every corner of the city, and the Compassionate Mother relented. While in the morning Bhagawan presided over a business convention titled ‘Ethics and the World of Finance’, which was attended by many top industrialists and businessmen in the city. Former Chairman of ICICI Bank K V Kamath, Chairman and Managing Director of the Union Bank of India MV Nair, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Kotak Bank Uday Kotak, Head of Deutsche Bank India PMS Prasad, Lok Sabha candidate and banker Meera Sanyal, Executive Director of SEBI Usha Narayanan, Executive Director of Reserve Bank of India VS Das were few of the prominent attendees. Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who was also present, took the opportunity to seek Bhagawan’s blessings for his second term in running the state. In the presence of the Lord, all differences melt. Chavan and his political rival Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopinath Munde shared the same stage, and the same views too. Following the convention, the spotlight was on Jamboorie Maidan in Worli — located in central Mumbai and around 18 km away from Andheri — where over 15,000 devotees gathered for public darshan. As requested by the city administration, Bhagawan’s car was driven through the city’s engineering marvel, the Bandra-Worli Sealink built over the Arabian Sea waters, before it reached the darshan grounds. Bhagawan reached the Maidan at around 11.10 am and sat enjoying the bhajans sung by the local singers. After blessing the devotees and receiving Aarti, Bhagawan left the venue about 30 minutes later.
South Mumbai Next on schedule was the lunch at ‘Varsha’, the official residence of the chief minister of Maharashtra in Malabar Hill, south Mumbai. This was the first time that Bhagawan had visited the official residence of a serving chief minister, and Ashok Chavan was chosen to be the blessed one.
Eyewitnesses said Chavan had requested Bhagawan to go around every room in the house so that his official house would be sanctified. The evening darshan at Brabourne Stadium in Churchgate turned into an ethereal experience for an estimated 15,000 devotees present.
Under a moonlit open sky, the Lord sat on an exquisitely decorated stage listening to the divine melodies of students of the Sri Sathya Sai University, Prasanti Nilayam. The breeze in the stadium too seemed to be intoxicated in the atmosphere, as it gently swayed the Lord’s hair. The students offered a string of soul-stirring melodies to Bhagawan that left everyone wishing that the night would never end. But there was another devotee waiting for Bhagawan’s arrival. After about two hours, Bhagawan asked for Aarti and left the stadium for the Peddar Road residence of former state home minister Jayant Patil. Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar with family and Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee were also present alongwith the minister’s family members seeking Bhagawan’s blessings. Following dinner at Patil’s residence, Swami’s motorcade, which had been tagged with ‘Z’ security, zipped through the traffic-cleared roads back to Dharmakshetra at about 10 pm.
Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group, stood waiting at the gates of Anand Kutir to have Bhagawan’s darshan and was blessed with an hour-long interview. November 2 After a whirlwind schedule on the previous two days, Monday had a relatively relaxed schedule for Bhagawan and his devotees. After a brief session with old students at Satya Deep, Bhagawan came down to the bhajan hall Shanti Deep at about 12 noon where He blessed the organisers, teachers of the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Mandir, Mumbai, and other volunteers.
At about 2.45 pm, Bhagawan left for Puttaparthi with his group of students and guests, escorted by the state Chief Minister till the Mumbai airport. Devotees lined along the pathway of Dharmakshetra were blessed to see a smiling Bhagawan as the car glided out of the premises. Unlike other farewells, here there was no parting; it was only a reunion at another level.
He came, He saw, He conquered Three days flew by, and nobody had realised it. However, as evidence, He had left His footprints everywhere, in every heart. There were miracles everywhere, life had changed for everybody — for those who were fortunate to speak to Him to those sitting in the last row at darshan grounds; for those who had been devotees for years and for those who had come to see Him merely out of curiosity.
“I am very happy I came here. I feel as if I have seen God today. I got to touch His feet on the stage before the performance, and He even blessed me by touching me on the head. I am thrilled,” said an overwhelmed Gore. For Sonu Nigam, Bhagawan’s arrival itself was a miracle. “I never got the opportunity to visit Puttaparthi, but I am very fortunate that Swami Himself came down to our city — that too in the brief period when I am in Mumbai between two shows.”
Thirteen-year-old Gauri Tatkare, a Class VII student of the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Mandir, Dharmakshetra, was “very excited” for she had seen Bhagawan for the first time, while her schoolmate Aarti Maitre, also 13, said she was “very happy” to see Bhagawan again, and that too on her school premises itself. Bhagawan’s arrival had given a welcome break from hectic life for 60-year-old real estate agent Jayantilal Solanki. A resident of central Mumbai’s Lower Parel, Solanki said he had come to Dharmakshetra every time Bhagawan had come to the city since the 1970s. For Tina Roopani, 22, a US resident who came to Mumbai to have Bhagawan’s darshan, the geographical distance was nothing compared to the “peace and contentment” she had got after seeing her Lord. But perhaps the most subtle and evident miracle of Bhagawan reflected in the eyes of every devotee present — the eyes reflected peace, they twinkled with bliss and fulfillment, as if they had reached home. As 72-year-old Raksha Dalal, a Balvikas guru since 1975, said it best. “He has gone back, but I know He is always with me.” Yes, He has gone back, but not before leaving “HIMSELF” in every heart that relished His darshan, enabling reunion at a different level… (Author is an alumnus of Sri Sathya Sai University, Anantapur Campus, currently working with Rediff, Mumbai as Asst. The Return of The Lord

Welcoming the Lord back to Prasanthi is never an ordinary occasion, rather is a momentous occasion to reconnet, for Prasanthi or Puttaparthi can never bear the pangs of separation from her Beloved. This is the history of her very existence and the existence is the Divine Being Himself, but for whose presence the spiritual township goes barren.
Behind the panoramic blue skies with golden sun dotting prominently as if awaiting to receive The Lord, while waning to dusk, the scene was perfect for the Majestic Lords Air Chariot to touch down. And dotting in the sky, precisely couple of minutes after the clock ticked five, the tiny birdlike air-chariot, Jet Airliner Boeing 737-700 grew larger in proportion, finally touching down the tarmac of the Sri Sathya Sai Airport at 5:04 p.m. after a more than an hour air sojourn from Mumbai to Puttaparthi.
outside for a glimpse of the Lord. And the special guest showed up at the Airport to receive the Master was the little Sathya Geeta, Bhagawans pet elephant who was at her best exuberance playing pranks. Arathi was offered to Bhagawan before He proceeded to Ashram. The entire aircrew was blessed by Bhagawan before leaving the airport precincts.
Enroute to Prasanthi, covering the three kilometer road stretch, it was celebration all over, with hundreds lined up at vantage points to have a glimpse of The Lord on His return journey. There were many a folded hand, there were flower showers with colourful petals strewn at the Divine Chariot, there were arathi offerings, there were coconut breakings and there were another hundreds silently glancing at Him, all in merriment of His return. . The journey took almost half an hour with Bhagawan reaching the precincts of Prasanthi Nilayam just after 5:30 for a traditional welcome led by Veda chanting and flag bearing university and school students. Heaps of flowers strewn on the windshield was reminiscent of the merriment of the occasion and behind the beauty of these flowers was hiding the beautiful charming Lord of Puttaparthi. Bhajans were going on and welcoming the Lord they sangSwagatam, Swagatam Sri Sathya Sai Swagatham!
Earlier, back in Mumbai, after an extremely long and busy Sunday, the proceedings on the 2nd of November morning was restricted to the Dharmakshetra premises. The old students of Bhagawan from Mumbai had made a short video documentary depicting the evolution of Dharmakshetra. Bhagawan watched the film in Sathya Deep and blessed all the old students and posed for photographs. These grateful students had a prayer to Bhagawan to visit Mumbai frequently.
This was followed by a visit to Shanti Deep, the Bhajan Hall, where Bhagawan blessed many an active workers who were involved in the backstage preparation connected to Bhagawans visit. This was followed by a short Bhajan session at Jalan Mandap after which Bhagawan accepted Aarathi and retired to Sathya Deep. …And the the schedule hour arrived Dharmakshetra was preparing herself for the pangs of separation that she had endured many a time over the past. Recollecting the parting moments, we have a narration by an active volunteer, Aazmeen Kasad, an Advocate at Mumbai High Court and a Professor of Law, who had been reporting the events from Mumbai during the visit.
As the luggage of His guests and students was seen being loaded in the tempos that were there at Dharmakshetra, the message seemed to sink in, that after a glorious 48 hours of bliss and incessant activity, Dharmakshetra would be shortly bidding her Master farewell. As the guests and the students cars started slowly leaving the gates of Dharmakshetra, onwards to the Mumbai airport, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra arrived to personally escort Bhagawan to the airport.
Soon at about 2.45pm, Bhagawans car left the gates of Satyadeep, down the long, slope of Dharmakshetra, followed by His convoy of over 15 cars heading to Chatrapathi Shivaji International Airport . His smiling face as He gave His last darshan in Mumbai was the sole consolation to many a weeping heart and eye gathered there. Mumbais devotees felt a vacuum and Dharmakshetra bore a desolate look. A huge silence hung in the air and the only prayer on all lips was for Swami to come back soon again!”
of making up for all that lost timewe practically made Him live the life of a Mumbaikar. We work sixteen hours on an average but Bhagawan works incessantly. Yes, He works incessantlyand He loves us abundantlyIt was His overpowering love for Mumbai that was seen in action for the last three days and Mumbai literally basked in His glory and so was the Sai Fraternity!!!

1st November, 2009: Bhagawan at Jamboori Maidan, Worli
On the second day of Bhagawan’s visit to the city, it was “Varsha”, the official residence of the Chief Minister-designate, Ashok Chavan that evoked greater interest as the news spread about Bhagawan’s visit to the Chief Minister. Earlier in the morning, at Dharmakshetra, Bhagawan met a group of Bankers and Industrialists of Mumbai, some of whom have attended the “Ethics and World of Finance Conference” held in Prasanthi Nilayam in August. The morning programme was held in the Jamboori Maidan situated in South Mumbai where in Bhagawan blessed a vast concourse of devotees thronged to have a glimpse of The Lord! Bhagawan’s caravan sped past through the historic Bandra – Worli sealink, a 4.7 km architectural marvel that took 10 long years to commission early this year.
|
||||||||||||||||
The official Dharmakshetra Website writes that the venue was packed with a capacity crowd of over 25000 gathered at the Jamboori Maidan for Bhagawan’s darshan. Bhagawan entered the stage around 11.10 a.m. and remained there for about 30-35 minutes when bhajans were held while the capacity crowd was feasting their eyes with Bhagawan’s Darshan. Bhagawan left the venue after receiving Mangala Arathi at 11:45 a.m. From the Jamboori Maidan Bhagawn proceeded to “Varsha”, the official residence of Chief Minister Ashok Chavan at Malabar Hill, Mumbai followed by that of Jayant Patil, the State Home Minister. |
||||||||||||||||
The Chavan’s devotion to Sri Sathya Sai Baba dates back to his father, Late S.B. Chavan, legendary congress leader and former union minister who held various portfolios in the Congress led governments. The Maharashtra Chief Minister paid a visit to Prasanthi Nilayam recently officially inviting Bhagawan to Mumbai.
Quaid Najmi, reporting for IANS writes about the visit in their official column, excerpts of which are given below. In an unprecedented development, Maharashtra’s chief minister-designate Ashok Chavan hosted his spiritual guru, Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi, here Sunday afternoon. Chavan had specially invited Sathya Sai Baba to visit Varsha, the official residence of the state chief minister at Malabar Hill in south Mumbai, according to a government official. Chavan, along with his wife Ameeta and daughters Srijaya and Sujaya, received the Bhagawan on the white steps of Varsha which had been specially decorated with saffron-coloured flowers, flags and buntings for the occasion. |
||||||||||||||||
“The occasion is strictly a private, family affair… nobody from the government or his staff or the party is invited,” reports IANS.
Later, the Chief Minister hosted a lunch in honour of Sathya Sai Baba in the private dining hall of Varsha, which is usually reserved for VVIPs who visit the place. The chief minister has never kept his devotion and admiration for Sathya Sai Baba under wraps. He seeks His blessings regularly in times of need and goes to express his gratitude when his wishes are fulfilled. In fact, shortly after His party’s victory in last month’s assembly elections, Chavan had rushed to thank his spiritual guru. Though this is Sathya Sai Baba’s first visit to the State chief minister’s residence, he is no stranger to politicians and leaders across the political spectrum. Among his most prominent admirers and devotees was the former prime minister, the late P.V. Narasimha Rao. Heavy security arrangements were made for the VVIP guru in the area. |
||||||||||||||||
The Malabar Hill, with the Arabian Sea on three sides, is home for VVIPs and celebrities including the chief justice of Bombay High Court and other judges, ministers, top government officials, legislators, foreign diplomats, scientists, leading industrialists and businessmen, head honchos of multinationals and even a few film stars.
He also attended a religious concert by Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam in Goregaon Saturday evening, and interacted with officials of his various charitable interests in Maharashtra and Mumbai. Sathya Sai Baba arrived in Pune last Wednesday from Puttaparthi by a private chartered aircraft on a three-day visit and inaugurated a temple complex, Sri Sathya Sai Pandurang Kshetra at Hadshi. |
||||||||||||||||
PTI, Press Trust of India, India’s Premier News Agency writes:
Maharashtra Chief Minister designate Ashok Chavan today hosted ‘Satya Saibaba’ at his official residence. The Baba was on a five-day visit to the state and in Mumbai since yesterday where he had a discourse at the Jambori maidan at Worli in central Mumbai. Chavan said the Baba had been his spiritual guru since the time of his birth. Chavan’s father, late S B Chavan who also served as Chief Minister twice, was an ardent devotee of the Baba. Several Congress-NCP politicians, who are devotees of the Baba, also attended the prayer ceremony held at Chavan’s house Varsha. The evening programme is scheduled to be held at Brabourne Stadium (CCI), Churchgate, where Sitar exponent Rahul Sharma, son of legendary Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma would perform in His Divine Presence.

Reflections from Pune by Ms Julie Chaudhuri |
||||||||||||||||
True to the saying “God’s Delays are Not God’s Denials”, fulfilling the long cherished desire of the Jadhav’s and the Puneites, Divinity encased in human frame, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba blessed the Peshwa City with abundance, with abundance of His Love, all by His rich presence for three full days! Thousands upon thousands thronged to have a glimpse of The Lord…None would understand and decipher the subtle moves and vibrations of His Divinity, inner significance of which would go far beyond human perceptions for the emancipation of mankind. …And concluding His Holy Visit, He departed to an eagerly awaiting Mumbai City. And His Divine Caravan sped on through the Pune – Mumbai Highway…subtly blessing thousands on His way…He knows them all…but, not all of them know Him and His Divinity…as He sped on, for some He was God, for some He was a well known social reformer, for some He was a great persona, and for another lot He was another “Baba”…He alone grants the awareness…and that is the greatest blessing upon the humanity…Knowing Him while He is in the midst… While His Maharashtra sojourn entered its second and final phase, it would be interesting to reflect upon His blessed presence in Pune. Read on a summary of reflections from Ms. Julie Chaudhuri, Editor, Sathya Sai Newsletter, Pune If the hills around Hadshi make a priceless necklace, then Sri Sathya Sai Pandurang Kshetra is the most exquisite pendant. Such a wondrous sight to hold and behold. A veritable feast for the eyes. It was the most surreal environment decorated gaily for the Lord, His entourage and the ardent devotees gathering there. But let us start at the very beginning. Activities were on in full swing, in a highly synchronized manner ever since our Lord accepted Mr Shivajirao Jadhav’s invitation to visit Sri Sathya Sai Pandurang Kshetra. The winding road leading up to the Kshetra and then on to the mandir and the divine residence was quickly repaired and tarred. For easy flow of traffic, a one-way system was made for travelling up and for the return journey down towards the city. The mandirs were decorated for the Praan Pratishthan. A huge stage was designed with a wonderful backdrop of Shirdi Sai, Parthi Sai and Lord Panduranga in the centre. On one side of the backdrop was Swami’s saying – I am in you, You are in Me, You and I are one. On the other side, it had words that perhaps every devotee would like to say to Him – Tum shwaas ho, Tum paas ho, Tum vishwas ho… Barricades and seating arrangements for devotees who would be coming to have darshan of their Lord was made in this most scenic of all places. The hosts left no stone unturned to do their best for our Beloved Lord’s arrival. There was free food being served in the prasadalay for visitors and workers during these preparations, which went on ever so smoothly. Aesthetically designed fragrant flower arrangements enveloped all the mandirs and of course Bhagawan’s Divine residence. Day 1, Oct 28, 2009
At SSSPK, 1200 villagers from Hadshi welcomed Bhagwan with a Tukaram Dindi. Through the day, thousands of devotees thronged the Kshetra for a glimpse of Bhagawan. The evening programme began at 5.15 pm with bhajans. Swami arrived at 6 pm. There was an instant stir in the air and all hands were folded in reverence and there was a prayer on every lip. 25 villagers performed Tukaram Abhangs, after which singers Kavita Krishnamurty (Kavita Subramaniam), Nitin Mukesh and Sapna Mukherjee took centrestage. After taking His blessings, they sang beautiful bhajans that left everyone in ecstasy. Sapna Mukherjee and Nitin Mukesh’s new album – Sai Krishna – was released at the hands of Bhagawan. Mukherjee said, “I’ve been singing His bhajans since I was a child, and I am simply too thrilled that this CD was release by Baba…” Mukesh added, “Today’s evening was most Divine. He smiled at me and praised me. I’m too overwhelmed. First, God came to me in the form of my mother, then my daughter and now Sathya Sai…” Kavita Krishnamurthy too said emotionally, “I am what I am because of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. He is God, and it must be my past karma that has led me to perform in front of Him…” Day 2, Oct 29, 2009 In the evening, Bhagawan was welcomed for darshan by a traditional Tukaram Dindi. Bhagawan gave darshan from the Vitthal Rukmini Mandir. Mr Shivajirao Jadhav spoke about Swami’s message and showed his gratitude to Swami for accepting the invitation. Then, the All-India President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Mr V Srinivasan, gave a short interesting speech which was followed by Nishikant Barodikar’s Marathi narration of his own experiences with Swami.
And then, the moment that all were eagerly waiting for – Bhagawan’s Divine Discourse , which was translated into English and Marathi. Bhagawan spoke about a life of love – not to criticise anyone and to correct one’s own faults rather than pointing fingers at others. He spoke about the oneness of all beings and also stressed that our life has to be his message. He then lovingly blessed the gathering and sweetly expressed His happiness. Day 3, Oct 30, 2009
In the evening, after bhajans, the Little Champs of Marathi Sa Re Ga Ma gave a scintillating performance in the Divine presence. They began with abhangs immortalised by Tukaram and then went on to sing devotional songs which touched the heart of one and all, including Beloved Bhagwan.
He was so enchanted by their performance that He asked them for one last song together even though they had finished singing the songs they had rehearsed for! Though the evening was melodiously blissful, the imminent departure of Bhagawan for Mumbai next morning left a sad feeling deep within.
Each and every darshan is ever so valued, but to sit in front of the Lord in the lap of Mother Nature is ever so fulfilling. Dreams do come true… Day 4, Oct 31, 2009 road leading towards Lonavla. One could see the winding procession – motorbikes, two cars with security guards, Swami’s car, and a string of 20 cars following. Swami blessed the villagers with double Abhayahasta and then the convoy sped on, towards waiting Mumbai… Reflections from Pune by Ms Julie Chaudhuri |

Evening darshan Day 2 Hadshi 29th October 2009 – 5:00 PM The sun was beaming in anticipation for a glimpse of the Lord. The devotees had braved its scorch all afternoon. Suddenly, as a reply to the million prayers in thousands of hearts, a murmur of activity was noticed in Bhagawan’s residence. The Lord was coming after what seemed like eternity! No other sound of engines, no other cavalcade of cars had ever been so blessed and so very welcome! With anticipation, the devotees prepared themselves for yet another Divine Encounter. The Bhajans had already commenced and man and nature seemed to become one in an ambience of love and devotion. Sai Krishna arrived just as Madhusudhana Hare Madhava was being sung. Seated on the grand entrance of the Vitthal mandir, the Lord of the Universe graced the thousands present with His Darshan. He presided at the gathering like an Emperor holding the court of love in the land of the heart. The beautiful Bhajans were followed by yet more beautiful Divine feelings of Love flowing from the devotees’ hearts. Some of them – Shri Jadhav, Shri V. Srinivasan – the All India President, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations and Shri Nishikant Barodekar – staff of the Sathya Sai Mirapuri College of Music, Prasanthi Nilayam shared their experiences and offered gratitude to Swami for His infinite Grace. Shri Jadhav in all humility thanked Bhagawan for coming to Hadshi. He was filled with gratitude at the immense gathering for coming to the pristine surroundings of Hadshi, sanctified by Bhagawan’s Divine Presence. He declared to the delight of all gathered that Pandurang Kshetra is in the shape of the Divine AUM – the source of all knowledge, the seat of all dharma. Shri Jadhav gratefully reminisced the day’s events when Swami had graciously performed the Prana Pratishtha ritual for enlivening the Divine energy in the Ganesha, Vitthal Rakhumai and Shirdi Sai Baba idols . He had no words to thank Bhagawan for this grace and he earnestly prayed that we all indulge in spiritual and service activities. Shri Jadhav concluded his talk by urging Swami to come again and again to Hadshi, to the delight of the thousands gathered there. The All India President of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation – Shri V. Srinivasan spoke next. He declared that for 37 years devotees of Bhagawan from Lonavala and Pune had been eagerly waiting for His arrival. The land had faced problems as even rains had become scarce. Shri Srinivasan was convinced in complete faith that with Bhagawan coming here, even dry, arid lands will become fertile. He further urged that Bhakti is the only way to reach Swami. He reiterated Swami’s teachings that nothing is greater than Love. He spoke of Swami’s various institutions like the University in which perfect education is provided to prepare the students not just for earning a living, but for life. He also spoke about the hospitals where modern and state-of-the-art treatment is provided to one and all completely free of cost. He declared that it has all departments except the billing department. |

Everyone born in this holy land Bharat have done a lot of meritorious deeds in their past lives. What is the purpose of this human life? Human life is gifted to earn God’s grace. The person who receives God’s grace in abundance can bring transformation in society. The modern society is full of anxiety and restlessness. Wherever you go, whatever you encounter, you only find misery. We have witnessed several natural calamities recently. The calamities we are passing through have nothing to do with God. It is because of man’s own mistakes and his own makings. God teaches only Dharma (righteousness). He never wants you to walk the path of Adharma (unrighteousness). Satyam Vada, Dharmam Chara. We cannot escape from reflection, reaction and resound. Therefore we should know that God is one. We give many names to the One and the same God. All are one. Therefore, in the whole world, only one is in existence. In fact we feel we are miserable. If you ask yourself, you will know that the misery is of your own making. It has nothing to do with God. Therefore, never think that everything is given by God. Everything comes back to us because of our own thought process.It is only God which confers bliss to all of us, that is not dual, that is ethereal, and one without a second. If we make deep enquiries into our Vedanta, God gives us nothing. Pain or pleasure is of our own making. We are mistaken if we thing that someone else is responsible for our pain or pleasure. Help Ever, Hurt Never. Love All. Have faith in everyone. There is no human being without love. Even beasts, birds, animals and insects have love. This love is experienced even in the smallest of creatures. We should have deep conviction that God is present in everyone in the form of the Atma – consciousness. You are not hating yourself, you are hating God when you hate others. Every human being is like a mirror. In the mirror, you find a reflection of yourself. In many mirrors, you see many reflections of yourself. Reflection. Reaction. Resound. You are accusing yourself, blaming yourself. Therefore, whoever you come across, have deep faith that they are all God’s forms. Man fails to understand this truth. It is not proper on our path to make fun of anyone or hate anyone. Love is the only royal path that takes you closer to God. Therefore all noble souls merged in God because of their incessant love for God. Sakkubai went on repeating “Ranga, Ranga, Ranga”. Everybody made fun of her and her husband persecuted her. Ultimately, she merged in God. She always said “I am not different from Ranga”. In all three states of awareness, she thought of Ranga only. An atheist in Tamil Nadu used to take the idol of Vinayaka and beat Him with slippers. Karunanidhi used to enjoy this act. But Karunanidhi now declares that Sathya Sai is God. It’s quite likely that we commit mistakes out of ignorance. Then we repent. But you have to make amends for your mistakes. True repentence gives us atonement for our sins. Karunanidhi’s son Stalin believes in God. He comes to Puttaparthi and shares his experience with others when he goes to Delhi. It is only God who speaks, walks, listens to every activity. We go by name and form. We may call it snake or scorpion. God is in every creature. God has given skills to different creatures to protect themselves. The scorpion stings in self defence and not with an intention to hurt. In a dense forest, a lion hurts only if hurt. Reaction, reflection, resound. Bad actions lead to bad results. So do good. All that you face are consequences of our thought process. Our thoughts should be pure. A human being should have human values. Today, human beings are treated like dogs. Therefore all defects and mistakes lie with man. Reaction, reflection and resound. People made fun of those involved in the rescue of flood victims. In the same way, the whole community made fun of Sakkubai who kept chanting the name of Krishna. They were finally taught a lesson by Krishna. God is an ocean of love. Out of gross injustice and utter ignorance, we don’t understand ourselves and we blame God. The good or bad that we face is the consequence of our own doing. So we have to correct ourselves within. The Christians believe in ‘I’. Cut the ‘I’ and it becomes a cross. The ego has to be killed. Once we get rid of this ego, then we can realise the real self. Man today is knowledgeable in all aspects of life. He is conquering space, prepared to count stars. But he fails in simple things. Love is the undercurrent of everything. There are different kinds of sweets, but the sugar is one. The Upanishads say that whomsoever you salute, it reaches God. God is the one, who gives you everything. Understand your own mind. Realise your own mistake. Help Ever. Hurt Never. He is a true man who knows this fundamental truth, who has morality and character. If you understand this, you will not put anyone to suffering. Recognise unity in diversity. God is only one – Atma – consciousness, has no name or form. It is the spirit or consciousness which permeates all beings. Several lights exist, but current is one. We may undertake several spiritual activities but it all comes back to oneness. If you understand the oneness, you will have peace and bliss. You are Atma – the only one – the eternal one. God is only one – never think that He is many. When we face difficulties, we chant many names. But when we don’t have any problems in life, we don’t think of God. We should cling on to ‘Soham’. The name given to everyone at the time of birth is ‘Soham’. We will redeem our lives, working for liberation, if we know the Divine principle and Divine nature. Many people speak of Swami differently. It is their imagination. Bhagawan has no imagination at all. All imagination should be dispensed. Politicians know nothing. If they know the truth, the nation will be a better place. Do not follow politics. There is no relation between what the politician says and what he does. If anybody does good, follow it. This is the message of Baba to all of us today. The whole world should be happy. Let all the beings be happy. You will acquire this bliss through love. We say ‘Peace, peace, peace’. Where is this peace ? Only pieces. Bhagawan is happy and blesses all those gathered here. The discourse concluded with the song ‘Bhajo, bhajo, Vithala’ by the music college students. |

THE GIFT OF DARSHAN – AP Chief Minister visits Parthi – hirdi Sai Baba Padyatra from Margao to Borim` Goa
October 24, 2009
——-
THE GIFT OF DARSHAN
The experience that is freely available to all and the one everyone invariably looks forward to is Darshan. To be in the Divine presence and to catch a glimpse of Swami as He gently glides along is the longing of all devotees. Just for this, they come from all over the world. How they crane their necks to see Him as He comes out! That is hunger for the Divine; that is the deep yearning for the Divine. If that thirst is there, then He makes sure that it is satisfied….whatever the place and circumstances. Our joy is His joy. As Kasturi found out:
Picture1Baba visited Kakadi village and Razole in the Delta of Krishna river and then proceeded to the village of Sathyavada, where the yearning of rural hearts drew Him. The village houses have thick and high mud walls around them and so, Baba could not grant Darshan to the thousands who filled the narrow serpentine lanes. Sensing the anguish of the crowds outside the walls, Baba had a ladder brought, a narrow contraption with eight horizontal rods as steps; He climbed it, reached the top, and got a precarious foothold on the crest of the wall. He stood there, silhouetted against the sky, in the hot Sun, to confer coveted Darshan on the people. I have seen Him ascend the parapet of walls of storied bungalows and the top of His own car in order to give Darshan to milling crowds and to calm their ardour. In Bombay, He has walked on the parapet of the Gwalior Palace; in Kurnool, He has stood on the narrow slab on top of an arch; in Budili, He has stood on a chair placed on a bullock cart; in Trivandrum He stood on the top of a Fiat car in the hot Sun so that more people could see Him and feel joy. But, this quick climb up the bamboo ladder placed against the mud wall, the stately stand on the narrow wall, will shine in my mind as a golden memory of His Grace!Picture2
On another occasion, Baba went to Hindupur, a town about fifty kilometres away, that He had visited last when quite a boy ………… He was taken in procession through the streets of the town in an open jeep. While devotees felt that He was in the scorching Sun far too long, Baba expressed His joy that the jeep had wound its way through all the roads and by-lanes of the town. Later He said, “How else could the sick, the weak, the lame, and the old get My Darshan?”
The Darshan of Baba is a creative chance to transmute our base metal into gold. To listen to His words is to be charged with the current of spiritual regeneration. To read His writings is to feed the intellect with wholesome sustenance and purge it of egoistic dross.
Picture3Let us now find out what Swami Himself has to say about Darshan on various occasions:
Later it may be difficult to approach Me and ask Me. For, people are coming towards Me in full, unending streams, and you may have to have My Darshan from miles away!
There are those who may never see Me in the concrete form. They have, all the same, reached Me through a friend, a book, or a photograph. To each of these, if they yearn deeply, I give My Darshan inwardly. These too I love as deeply, for they have begun to see themselves as being beyond their body, as Divine Souls. This is the advancement towards Self-Realisation.
After My Darshan, always find a quiet corner, where you may enter into the stillness and receive the completion of My Blessings. As I pass you, My Energy goes from Me into you. If, immediately after Darshan, you start talking, the precious Energy gifted to you gets dissipated and returns to Me unused. Be assured that whatever My eyes see, becomes vitalised and transmuted. You are being changed day by day – never underestimate what is being accomplished by the act of My Darshan. Picture4
My walking amongst you is a gift yearned for by the gods of the Highest Heavens; but here you are receiving this Grace without much effort. Be grateful for what you are getting. The Blessings you receive would express themselves in due course, when the time comes. But also remember: To whom much is given, from him much also would be demanded!
Well, it is time we realize how lucky we are to be able to see God walking on earth !

TNN 24 October 2009,
MARGAO: An estimated 500 Sai Baba devotees from Margao will go on a padyatra (pilgrimage on feet) on Sunday 25th Oct`09
from Margao to Borim amidst chanting of Sai mantras and Sai bhajans.
The padyatra will commence from the Shree Sai Baba temple at Margao
and reach the Shree Sai Baba Devasthan, Borim, some 12 kms from the commercial town.
Temple committee member Saish Rajyadaksha told TOI that an ornately decorated palanquin comprising a huge picture of Shirdi Sai Baba will be taken out in a procession wherein devotees will walk bare foot the entire distance to the Borim temple, with some five halts on the way.
“The main rituals will be held at the temple premises at 6.30am after which the padyatra will be flagged off with religious fervour. The procession will reach Borim between 12 to 1 pm after which maha arti and maha prasad will be held,” said Rajyadaksha.
The padyatra was first held in 2001 from Margao to Zambaulim at the behest of a devotee Pravin Madkaikar. After his death, the palkhi’s route changed to Borim to culminate at the Sai Mandir.
A two minute shradanjali (tribute) to the founder is an important part of the padyatra, added Rajyadaksha.
Padyatris comprising men and women range from the age group of four to 90 years. Dozens of volunteers will assist the padyatris en route and drinks and refreshments will be served. Amidst traffic arrangements, this year the committee has laid special emphasis on security and besides police, an additional force of armed security personnel will also be deployed, said Rajyadaksha.
